The <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.technologyreview.es\/tr35espana\/1503\/judit-cubedo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MIT Technology Review award for Innovators Under 35<\/a> presented to Judit Cubedo in 2014, recognised this project as one of the 10 most influential and disruptive projects in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>GlyCardial\u00a0has developed innovative technology for the detection of Apo J Glyceria protein as a new biomarker in blood; not only for the diagnosis of cardiac ischemia, but also for predicting the evolution of patients and the risk of recurrence after this episode. Now the company expects to demonstrate the reliability of the new test at four leading hospitals in Spain and UK.<\/p>\n<p>To boost its entrepreneurial initiative, the start-up has received support from the La Caixa Foundation and Caixa Capital Risc \u2014via the <a href=\"https:\/\/caixaimpulse.com\/en\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caixaimpulse<\/a>\u00a0programme\u2014 as well as from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthequity.es\/index_eng.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Healthequity<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ship2b.org\/ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ship2B<\/a> Foundation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eithealth.eu\/clc-spain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EIT Health<\/a> and other entities. The money received in the October 2018 funding round from the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/news\/eic-pilot-246-innovators-selected-funding-bring-their-innovations-faster-market-2018-oct-29_en&amp;pk_campaign=rtd_news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SME Instrument Phase II<\/a>, as part of the H2020 program, constituted a crucial step in its progress.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Four Spanish women, two Catalan, among the finalists<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First launched in 2011, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/research-and-innovation\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/prizes\/eu-prize-women-innovators_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EU Prize for Women Innovators<\/a> was created to raise awareness of the need for more female entrepreneurs and create role models for women and girls. The prize is awarded every year to four talented women entrepreneurs from across the EU and Associated Countries, who have founded a successful company and brought innovation to market. Three winners each receive \u20ac100,000, with another \u20ac50,000 awarded to a Rising Innovator, aged 35 or younger.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Judit, three other Spanish entrepreneurs are among those selected to compete in the main category: the Catalan Neus Sabat\u00e9, co-founder and scientific adviser to Fuelium; Arancha Mart\u00ednez, co-founder and managing director of It Will Be, and Maria F\u00e1tima Lucas) co-founder and CEO of Zymvol Biomodeling.<\/p>\n<p>According Maryia Gabriel, commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth: &#8220;We celebrate the work of outstanding women innovators and encourage the next generation of women and girls to follow in their footsteps. Gender biases and stereotypes continue to steer girls and women away from science and technology-related careers.
