{"id":49915,"date":"2018-03-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-18T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/the-fem-talent-2018-awards-recognize-judit-anido-and-proteodesign\/"},"modified":"2020-11-18T15:07:38","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T14:07:38","slug":"the-fem-talent-2018-awards-recognize-judit-anido-and-proteodesign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/en\/the-fem-talent-2018-awards-recognize-judit-anido-and-proteodesign\/","title":{"rendered":"The Fem Talent 2018 Awards recognize Judit Anido and ProteoDesign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The prizes, which give recognition to people and organisations that promote female talent and equal opportunities, were awarded as part of the 10th Fem Talent Forum, held on 9 March in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barcelonactiva.cat\/barcelonactiva\/en\/index.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barcelona Advanced Industry Park<\/a> in front of a 400-strong audience.<\/p>\n<p>Judit Anido, alongside Dr Joan Seoane and Dr Josep Baselga, is the co-founder of the biotech spin-off Mosaic Biomedicals, which develops personalised cancer treatments. Its merger with the Canadian company <a href=\"http:\/\/northernbiologics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Northern Biologics<\/a> has kick-started the development of its main drug, <a href=\"http:\/\/northernbiologics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/SITC-2017-MSC-1-TIPS-Poster-Final-Draft.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSC-1<\/a>. Phase I of its clinical trial is being conducted in several leading hospitals in Europe and the United States. Anido is the CEO of the company and has recently joined the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cataloniabio.org\/ca\/junta-directiva\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CataloniaBio &amp; HealthTech board of directors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ProteoDesign, meanwhile, is a biotech company created by scientists from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\/web\/ub\/en\/index.html?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Universitat de Barcelona<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.princeton.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Princeton University<\/a>\u00a0\u2013Miquel Vila-Perell\u00f3, Silvia Frutos, Marc Montserrat and Tom W. Muir\u2013 which focuses on the development of conjugated antibodies through a unique patented technology. Conjugated antibodies are a class of new biotherapeutic agents which show great promise for cancer treatment as, unlike traditional treatments, they allow for the selective elimination of cancerous cells without affecting healthy cells.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biocat.cat\/ca\/nota-de-premsa\/28-les-empreses-biomediques-catalanes-estan-creades-o-dirigides-dona\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biocat<\/a> data, 28% of Catalan biomedical companies are either created or managed by women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two companies based in the Barcelona Science Park have been recognized in this year\u2019s edition of the <a href=\"http:\/\/femtalent.cat\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fem Talent<\/a> awards.
