{"id":49882,"date":"2016-05-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-05-12T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/researchers-froms-ibec-and-ub-have-collaborated-in-the-definition-of-a-new-kind-of-indicators-for-bacterial-virulence\/"},"modified":"2016-05-13T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-05-12T23:00:00","slug":"researchers-froms-ibec-and-ub-have-collaborated-in-the-definition-of-a-new-kind-of-indicators-for-bacterial-virulence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/en\/researchers-froms-ibec-and-ub-have-collaborated-in-the-definition-of-a-new-kind-of-indicators-for-bacterial-virulence\/","title":{"rendered":"Researchers froms IBEC and UB have collaborated in the definition of a new kind of indicators for bacterial virulence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most of the bacterial strains of the\u00a0<em>E. coli<\/em>\u00a0are naturally found in the human intestine and they are not risky for the human health, except for certain kinds of bacteria (pathogenic), some of which provoke food intoxication which can be mortal.\u00a0The kind of virulent\u00a0<em>E.coli<\/em>\u00a0like this one are classified among pathotypes, which are defined by a mix of virulent factors (molecules produced by the bacteria contributing to its pathogenicity), phenotype and clinical association.<\/p>\n<p>A great part of the\u00a0<em>E.coli<\/em>\u00a0pathotypes is already identified and are characterized thanks to the study of virulent genes distribution in isolated strains of the infected patients. However, the virulent phenotype is not strictly linked to each pathotype; one pathotype can be more or less virulent depending on the strain and serotype functions, showing different virulent factors.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, which was published \u00a0in\u00a0Scientific Reports, researcher studied the correlation among the presence of certain genes and the virulent phenotype of the\u00a0<em>E.coli\u00a0<\/em>pathogenic strains. he scientists\u00a0found that genome of different\u00a0<em>E.coli<\/em>\u00a0enteroaggregative intestine pathogenic strains have two variables of the same gene which codifies for a global modulator (the hha gen). These variables, named hha2 and hha3, are common,\u00a0for example,\u00a0in the\u00a0<em>E.coli\u00a0<\/em>strains of the ST131 type, which are resistant to antibiotics, cause extraintestinal infections and are worldwide distributed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have shown that detecting these kinds of proteins and its genes can be a new strategy to identify the bacterial pathogenic serotypes\u201d says Antonio Ju\u00e1rez from IBEC\/UB, who led the study. \u201cIn the\u00a0<em>E.coli\u00a0<\/em>case, we are able to widen the hha2 and hha3 variables and establish them as indicators of the isolated<em>\u00a0E.coli\u00a0<\/em>virulent strains from the environment and the patients; we can easily detect the pathogenic variables in order to stop infection outbreaks in a better way&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0Article of reference:<\/p>\n<p>A.
