{"id":49678,"date":"2019-05-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-30T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/the-european-project-glam-develops-a-multiplexed-biosensor-for-personalized-diagnosis-and-therapy-for-bladder-cancers\/"},"modified":"2020-11-18T14:57:02","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T13:57:02","slug":"the-european-project-glam-develops-a-multiplexed-biosensor-for-personalized-diagnosis-and-therapy-for-bladder-cancers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/en\/the-european-project-glam-develops-a-multiplexed-biosensor-for-personalized-diagnosis-and-therapy-for-bladder-cancers\/","title":{"rendered":"The European project GLAM develops a multiplexed biosensor for personalized diagnosis and therapy for bladder cancers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The european project\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/glam-project.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glass-Laser Multiplexed Biosensor<\/a><\/em> (GLAM) was borned\u00a0to develop in a four-year term (2015 &#8211; 2019) a new diagnostic tool to detect biomarkers from biofluids obtained in a non-invasive manner, focusing on urine and genitourinary cancers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During this time,\u00a0the partners created a prototype of the sensor, which can detect up to 10 biomarkers in urine.\u00a0The device, based on photonic and monoclonal antibody biosensor technologies, shows various advantages compared to current techniques: it is fast, ultra-sensitive, simple to use, portable, and cheap.This will help oncologists make better treatment decisions according to the patient\u2019s needs in a non-invasive manner for bladder cancer diagnosis. Moreover, the consortium published several papers and applied for a patent.<\/p>\n<p>According to Francesc Mitjans, director Health &amp; Biomedicine Business Unit at Leitat and\u00a0technical coordinator of the project:\u00a0\u201cThis is a step towards truly personalized medicine in cancer. The device might allow the identification of new prognostic patterns for a better classification of patients, prognosis evaluation and treatment decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GLAM had a budget of 4\u2019835\u2019586 euros, financed through the EU\u2019s Horizon 2020 research programme.
