{"id":49662,"date":"2016-03-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-09T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/eduard-batlle-awarded-the-lilly-foundations-2016-biomedical-research-award\/"},"modified":"2020-11-18T14:56:34","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T13:56:34","slug":"eduard-batlle-awarded-the-lilly-foundations-2016-biomedical-research-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcb.ub.edu\/en\/eduard-batlle-awarded-the-lilly-foundations-2016-biomedical-research-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Eduard Batlle awarded the Lilly Foundation&#8217;s 2016 Biomedical Research Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"yui_patched_v3_11_0_1_1457687769536_394\">Eduard Batlle, ccoordinator of the Oncology Programme and group leader of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.irbbarcelona.org\/en\/research\/colorectal-cancer-laboratory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorectal Cancer Laboratory<\/a>, has been honoured for his scientific contributions to understanding the relationship between colon cancer and intestinal stem cells, and the metastatic stages of the disease.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His group, international leaders in this field, described part of the process behind the formation of metastases in this type of cancer, and in particular the role of the tumour environment, called tumour stroma, during the tumour&#8217;s colonization of other organs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Batlle&#8217;s contributions are outstanding, in quality, visibility and impact,&#8221;\u00a0stressed\u00a0Dr. Jose Antonio Sacristan,\u00a0director of the Lilly Foundation, while highlighting\u00a0&#8220;his efforts to use the results in pre-clinical research to improve the clinical management of the illness&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Professor\u00a0Luis Alberto Moreno Aznar,\u00a0professor at the University of Zaragoza, has received the award\u00a0 in the category of clinical research for his contribution to the knowledge of the causes of childhood obesity and the design of strategies for prevention and control.<\/p>\n<p>The Lilly Foundation&#8217;s Biomedical Research Awards are among the most significant in their field, due to the prestige of the recipients of the awards over the 15 editions.
