\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\tChaired by the minister of the DURSI, Carles Sol\u00e0, the meeting will be officially opened on Monday 27 March at 17 h and will involve the following: Fernando Albericio, director of the PCB; Marta Aymerich, director of the Interdepartmental Committee for Technological Research and Innovation (CIRIT); Joan Cornet, president of the executive Committee of the BioRegion of Catalonia; Josep Samitier, vice-rector for International Relations of the UB and principal investigator of Nano2Life at the PCB; and Patrick Boisseau, coordinator of the network. <\/p>\n
Seven new projects involving specialized researchers in development and application of nanotechnology in fields such as biology, genetic engineering, biotechnology, neuroscience and physics, among others, will be presented during the meeting. These projects seek to develop drug delivery systems that can be implanted in patients, and biochips to detect cell toxicity and to control environmental safety. In addition, they also focus on the application of nanotechnology for the diagnosis of initial stage cancer; tissue regeneration, such as the optical nerve; the development of structures for cell interactions, and the study of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.<\/p>\n
The meeting programme also includes sessions for work groups that study and promote collaboration with industry, gender equality, and ethical, social and legal issues of nanotechnology. <\/p>\n
Nano2Life is the first network of excellence in nanobiotechnology included in the VI Framework Programme of the European Union. This imitative seeks to establish Europe as a competitive international leader in nanobiotechnology. Founded in 2004, the network comprises 23 European organizations and more than 41 enterprises operating in this field. In this regard, the network is a forum for the exchange of knowledge, ideas and experiences and a promoter of international cooperation projects, networks for technological and knowledge resources, and programmes for staff training and knowledge transfer issues. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
