Involving sociolinguists, teachers, and representatives from parents’ associations and public administration, this conference will address the current status of Catalan in schools and institutes in Valencia, the Balearic islands and Catalonia. Information will also be presented on the linguistic competence that students achieve in each year and on the use of Catalan in and out of school. Given the new social challenges such as immigration, the conference programme also includes a section devoted to proposals to increase the oral use of Catalan in schools and several examples of the same.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
On 25 and 26 November, the “Language and Education Conference” <\/a> will bring together more than seventy experts who will analyse the current status of the Catalan language in schools in Catalan-speaking territory after 20 years of linguistic immersion.
