\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\tNanomedicine comprises applications, including prevention, diagnosis and therapy, that require technologies involving devices with nanometric scale properties to interact with the human body. In this field, “research in nanotechnology will bring about significant breakthroughs in the field of medicine, providing applications for diagnosis and the treatment of certain diseases. To fulfil these expectations, however, several scientific and technological challenges must be overcome through close collaboration and coordination of the agents that comprise the R+D+I system. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a Spanish science and technology network in the field of nanomedicine”, commented Josep Samitier, NanoMed’s coordinator.<\/p>\n
NanoMed Spain network was set up in March 2005 and includes the particpation of universities, research and technology centres, firms operating in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, public research organizations and hospitals, among other entities. The platform is organised into work groups that are structured around three fields of nanomedical application, nanodiagnosis, regenerative medicine and drug delivery, in addition to another field that deals with toxicity and regulation. Furthermore, the platform includes a research group that focuses on social education and communications in order to increase public awareness of the most significant aspects of nanomedicine. <\/p>\n
NanoMed Spain also aims to represent Spanish interests in the European Technology Platform on NanoMedicine, an initiative that seeks to coordinate all the agents involved in this field throughout Europe and that will be officially presented in September.
