\t\t\tThe speakers in the forum will address issues such as the strengths and weaknesses of biotechnology in Europe and Latin America, both in the public and private sectors; intellectual and industrial property rights and their impact on technology transfer in Latin America, and biosafety and social acceptance of biotechnology. In addition, the new model of cooperation and strategic alliances between European and Latin American institutions and companies will be discussed and presentations will be made of examples of biotech cooperation in the following sectors: agroalimentary, crop and animal farming, environment and sustainable industry, and biotech applications in human and animal health. <\/p>\n

BioEuroLatina 2005 will begin on Wednesday 6 April with an opening conference entitled \u00abLa historia de la alimentaci\u00f3n entre Europa y Latinoam\u00e9rica: los primeros intercambios biotecnol\u00f3gicos\u00bb by Ram\u00f3n Clotet, secretary of the Triptolemos Foundation,; and will close on Friday 8 April at 13h with a presentation by the honorary president of the forum, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, who will read the \u00abThe Barcelona Declaration\u00bb. This document addresses biotechnology as a focal point of economic, scientific and social development between Europe and Latin America. The event will also include the participation of the secretary of state for Universities and Research of the Ministry of Education and Science, Salvador Ord\u00f3\u00f1ez; the minister of Univeristies, Research and the Information Society of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Regional Government of Catalonia), Carles Sol\u00e0; the president of the FELAEB, Daniel Pagliano, and the director of the PCB, M\u00e0rius Rubiralta.<\/p>\n
