\t\t\tThe opening ceremony of the assembly was attended by Juan Antonio Sanchez, Director General of Industry of the City Hall of Leganes; Daniel Pe\u00f1a, director of the University Carlos III; I\u00f1igo Gil-Casares, director General of Economics, Statistics and Technological Innovation of the Community of Madrid; Jos\u00e9 Luis Vicente, managing director of Leganes Technology Consortium; and Felipe Romera, President of APTE. <\/p>\n

APTE 2011 Statistics<\/b><\/p>\n

During 2011 the APTE parks increased by 8.9% the number of entities, exceeding the figure of 6,000 companies located in their premises. 244 of these companies are foreign owned companies and 931 companies are under 3 years of age and undergoing the process of incubation. Also during 2011, a total of 844 new entities were created and based at APTE park members. <\/p>\n

Regarding investments made by the parks in research and development, parks invested a total of 1,200 million Euros in 2011. The analysis of data relating to sectors shows that information technology and communication and engineering companies as well as consultancy firms continue to lead the productive sectors in science and technology parks, reaching 23% and 14%, respectively . Third in place are entities involved in the sector of medicine and health, with a 6%. <\/p>\n

APTE-CRUE Collaboration agreement<\/b><\/p>\n

During the meeting, the President of APTE, Felipe Romera, and the President of CRUE, Adelaida de la Calle, signed an agreement of collaboration with the aim of establishing a general framework for cooperation ” CRUE-APTE “to intensify the activities of interrelation between Spanish universities and science and technology parks. <\/p>\n

The agreement foresees the development of an action plan which includes activities of common interest, such as the creation of an observatory of social demands and the Spanish productive sector, enhancing the internationalization of Spanish universities from the experience of external promotion of parks and facilitate compatibility between doctoral programs and internships in companies with a technological or innovation component. <\/p>\n

The agreement also envisages the strengthening of material in the transfer of knowledge and fostering innovation between universities and companies through the active participation of universities in the projects carried out by APTE, as well as monitoring and involvement of the parks in the development of strategic lines proposed by the International Excellence Campus Also planned is a mechanism to bring university academic staff closer to the productive sector. <\/p>\n
