\t\t\tThe Banc de Sang i Teixits (BST) is a public-sector company in the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Autonomous Government of Catalonia), which aims to ensure the provision and proper use of blood and tissues in Catalonia, and the reference in diagnostic immunology and development Advanced Therapies. <\/p>\n

Catalonia is one of the five Spanish Autonomous Regions that exceeds 40 donations per thousand inhabitants per year. In 2009 the Blood and Tissue Bank obtained a total of 282,381 blood donations in Catalonia and 11,614 plasma donations, of which 188,186 (66.64%) has been performed in mobile units, and 94,195 (33.35%) in permanent centers. <\/p>\n

A total of 47 persons participated in the 10th Blood Donation Day held on May 19 at the Barcelona Science Park. Of these 47 participants, 7 were new donors and four people who offered to donate their blood could not do so, leaving a final total number of 43 donations.
