\t\t\tThis seminar\u2013 which has been organised with the support of the Catalan Agency of Data Protection-will host the presence of internationally renowned speakers such as Ruth Macklin, professor of Bioethics of the Public Health Department of the Albert Einstein College School of Medicine of New York, and Patricia Kosseim, General Counsel of Legal Services, Policy and Parliamentary Affairs of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The gathering will also feature two round tables: “Shared Medical Record and Confidentiality” and “Biological samples of a human origin and protection of personal data”, that will benefit from the participation of different national and international experts of the academic, healthcare and institutional worlds. <\/p>\n

The opening event will be conducted by D\u00eddac Ram\u00edrez, rector of the UB; Mar\u00eda Casado, holder of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and director of the Observatory on Bioethics and Law<\/a> (UB-PCB); and Esther Mitjans, director of the Catalan Data Protection Authority<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The mission of the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics of the UB, created in 2007, is to promote an integrated system of activities covering research, training and spreading ideas in the field of Bioethics with the aim of facilitating collaboration between renowned highly qualified researchers and universities and higher education institutions in Europe and in America in addition to other areas of the world. Another important objective of the Chair is to convey the experience acquired at the core of the Bioethics and Law Observatory to developing countries in the fields of research, academic teaching and knowledge dissemination. <\/p>\n

The UNESCO Chair of Bioethics of the UB is the first to be granted to a Spanish university in this field and the seventh worldwide and represents an international recognition both to the professional career of Dr Mar\u00eda Casado as well as to the work conducted at the Observatory in Bioethics and Law UB at the Barcelona Science Park in the research and transfer of knowledge surrounding ethical, social and legal implications of biotechnology and biomedicine. <\/p>\n
