\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\tThe 9th F\u00e8lix Serratosa Conference was held on 19th and 20th January in the Faculty of Sciences of the UAB and in the PCB, respectively. On the first day, it l took place in the main lecture hall of the Faculty of Sciences (Building C, Bellaterra Campus) at 17 h, and included a presentation by Luis Castedo, professor at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, on molecular architecture and the development of new synthetic techniques, and by Peter E. Nielsen, professor at the Copenhagen University, on “Peptide nucleic acids. Implication in chemistry, biology, medicine and the origin of life”.<\/p>\n
On 20th January, the conference began at 11 h with the opening of the F\u00e8lix Serratosa Hall in the PCB (Modular Building, c\/ Josep Samitier, 1-5, Barcelona) by Joan Tugores, rector of the UB and president of the PCB. This act was then followed by conferences by Josep Xicart, professor at the UB, with a talk entitled “Chaos\/Chaosbase: informatic system for the design of organic synthesis”; and by Professor Nielsen, who, on this occasion, gave a presentation on “Gene targeting by PNA antisense”.<\/p>\n
F\u00e8lix Serratosa (1925-1995), researcher at the CSIC, developed his career in the field of organic synthesis at the CSIC, UAB and UB. He is remembered for his scientific and humanist qualities, which made him a historical figure of international repute in Catalan science. Professor Serratosa introduced a new technique of previous retro-synthetic analysis into the design of organic synthesis, and in Spain he was a pioneer in the application of computer technology to this field. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
