The objective of this additional expense is to comply with the third additional disposition of the Statute of Autonomy which states that any investment made by the State in infrastructures must equate to the relative participation of the Catalan Gross Domestic Product in relation to the State Gross Domestic Product for a 7-year period. <\/p>\n

Included as part of this additional budget item, the Ministry of Science and Innovation will allocate 83.1 million Euros to Catalonia for R&D&I (20M\u20ac) and for the undertaking of works, equipment and facilities at the Universidad Pompeu Fabra (10M\u20ac); the Universidad Polilt\u00e9cnica Catalu\u00f1a (11M); the University of Barcelona (13M\u20ac), and the University Rovira i Virgili (7.9M\u20ac), amongst others. The centres that will benefit from these investments will initiate projects on nanotechnology, genomics and research in nutrition and health. <\/p>\n

The projects agreed upon today, in addition to the 4,006 million Euros allocated in the State Budgets, add up to an investment in excess of 4,806 M\u20ac for 2009 in Catalonia. <\/p>\n
