The prize-giving ceremony took place on Monday 1 December. The selection of winners was made by a multidisciplinary panel of judges made up of representatives of the PCB and specialists in the science press, graphic design, and photography, who reached their decision from a short list of eight images. The judges chose the two eventual winners by voting and their decision was unanimous. Originality, artistic and technical quality, visual impact and scientific content were the factors guiding the judges’ decision. <\/p>\n
A total of 29 photographs were submitted. All were taken by personnel connected to the research institutes, companies, technology platforms and other institutions based at the Barcelona Science Park, such as the Institute for Biomedical Research (IRB Barcelona), the Bioengineering Institute of Catalonia, the Barcelona Institute of Molecular Biology (IBMB-CSIC), the Experimental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology Unit (UTOX), the Nanotechnology Platform, the Sabater Pi Collection and Documentation Centre, as well as researchers with the University of Barcelona. <\/p>\n
The panel of judges included Fernando Albericio, PCB Director General; Roser Artal, PCB Managing Director; Rosina Malagrida, PCB Director of Communication; Anna Calderer, who runs the programme on scientific dissemination “Research in Society”; Jes\u00fas Purroy, project manager of the PCB’s Science Directorate; and Mariana Eidler, director of T\u00e0ctica 42, a graphic design and photographic agency. <\/p>\n
