Through various programmes, more than 20 secondary school, high school and undergraduate students have spent the summer in nine of the institute\u2019s laboratories, experiencing first-hand what everyday research in bioengineering is like.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year, participation in programmes such as <strong>Crazy About Bioengineering<\/strong>, <strong>Youth and Science<\/strong> by the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, and <a href=\"https:\/\/recercaensocietat.cat\/batx2lab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Batx2Lab<\/strong><\/a> at the Barcelona Science Park, among others, has enabled 23 students to gain first-hand insight into the work carried out in several of the institute\u2019s laboratories, always under the guidance of researchers who acted as mentors throughout their stay. Initiatives such as these are part of IBEC\u2019s commitment to inspiring and supporting scientific vocations among young people.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Batx2Lab programme, promoted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/recercaensocietat.cat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recerca en Societat \u2013 RESS\u00d2<\/a> programme at the Barcelona Science Park, three high school students had the opportunity to discover from within how a research laboratory operates:<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Ivette Sellar\u00e8s Moreno<\/strong> and <strong>Aleix S\u00e1nchez Gir\u00e1ldez<\/strong> worked with <strong>Akshayakumar Kompa<\/strong>, from Javier G\u00f3mez\u2019s <strong>\u201cBiointegrated Materials and Engineering\u201d<\/strong> group. The group also welcomed <strong>Mia Mu\u00f1oz Rossell\u00f3<\/strong> and <strong>Mar\u00eda Bendinelli Alonso<\/strong>, who were mentored by <strong>\u00c1ngela Mar\u00eda Ram\u00edrez Rosales<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sergio Medina Atoche<\/strong> completed his placement with <strong>Carles Verdaguer<\/strong>, from Xavier Rovira\u2019s <strong>\u201cSpatial Biotechnology\u201d<\/strong> group, while <strong>Heba Oulad Lahsan Ahsain Senhaji<\/strong> and <strong>Valentina Alejandra Medina Le\u00f3n<\/strong> joined Giuseppe Battaglia\u2019s <strong>\u201cMolecular Bionics\u201d<\/strong> group under the supervision of <strong>Gal\u00b7la Vinyes i Bassols<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In Pere Roca-Cusachs\u2019 <strong>\u201cCellular and Molecular Mechanobiology\u201d<\/strong> group, <strong>Laia Lacasta Mart\u00edn<\/strong> and <strong>Adam Le Coguic<\/strong> worked with <strong>Valeria Venturini<\/strong>, while <strong>Ruth Fran\u00e7a Amela<\/strong>, <strong>Fat\u00edn El Otmani Sabiri<\/strong> and <strong>Natalia P\u00e9rez Mu\u00f1oz<\/strong> were mentored by <strong>Yudish Varma<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Through these placements, IBEC once again reaffirms its commitment to scientific education and to supporting new generations interested in bioengineering, nanomedicine and the life sciences.
