The University of Barcelona (UB<\/a>) will incorporate nine new unique infrastructures to boost cutting-edge research, thanks to a \u20ac2.5 million grant from the 2024 call for scientific and technical equipment acquisition, issued by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Seven of these new pieces of equipment will be integrated into the University\u2019s Scientific and Technological Centers (CCiTUB)<\/a>, which have several facilities located at the Barcelona Science Park. These new additions to the CCiTUB will enable the launch of new research lines in fields such as medicine, the environment, and advanced materials.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Resonance and Magnetism Unit<\/a> will be strengthened with two new instruments. The NMR laboratory<\/a>, located in the Cluster I building of the PCB, will be equipped with an NMR system for real-time reaction monitoring\u2014an essential tool for flow chemistry, an emerging area of chemistry that requires systems capable of identifying, monitoring, and quantifying different molecular species in real time during a reaction. Furthermore, it will allow the development of automated systems for reaction optimization, especially useful for scaling up chemical processes to industrial levels.<\/p>\n

The Magnetic Measurements Laboratory<\/a> within the same unit will incorporate a unique piece of equipment in Spain: a Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) with a dilution refrigerator. This new system will complement the pulsed EPR spectrometer recently acquired by the CCiTUB (EQC 2021). The uniqueness of both instruments will position the CCiTUB as a leading center for the study of the magnetic and electrical properties of new materials with applications in spintronics, quantum technologies, biomedicine, environmental science, ecological transition, and food safety, among others.<\/p>\n

The CCiTUB facilities located at the University of Barcelona’s Science Park currently include units for Cytometry, Cryo-microscopy, Genomics, Polymorphism and Calorimetry, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and Separation Techniques (HPLC, MS, HRMS, EC, and AEO).<\/p>\n

The capabilities offered by these new instruments\u2014some of them unique in Catalonia and Spain\u2014together with the major singular equipment recently installed at the CCiTUB, will provide a centralized infrastructure for conducting more targeted, optimized, and comprehensive research studies. In addition, as with the rest of the CCiTUB equipment, these new systems will be integrated into the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system to ensure the reliability and traceability of results and deliver the highest quality service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
