Through green procurement, we promote a circular and environmentally, socially and ethically responsible economy. These criteria are applicable to both product procurement and the contracting of supplies and services and are present all along the value chain.<\/p>\n
Green procurement criteria look at how production processes use resources and energy, the nature of raw materials, product durability and repair or refill options, the impact of transport, and recycling options for materials at the end of the product’s life.<\/p>\n
Ethical and social criteria are aimed at guaranteeing decent working conditions (e.g. equal treatment of men and women, combating child labour, supporting fair trade initiatives), defending compliance with labour regulations and promoting permanent employment. They also favour the socio-occupational integration of people in vulnerable situations and work to raise awareness about policies to control sexual harassment or any other type of harassment.<\/p>\n
As a help to consumers when choosing a product, standardised labels are available with information on the environmental, ethical and social aspects of products and services.<\/p>\n
Today there are so many eco-labels that sometimes it can be overwhelming. It is important that we carefully read each label’s description and scope so we are clear on what they signify. Let’s all strive to be informed and responsible consumers, both as individuals and as institutions.<\/p>\n
