Viles Florides: a project to create green spaces and healthy environments in our cities

The Viles Florides movement has been operating in Catalonia for many years. The project promotes the transformation of towns and cities through urban greenery, putting the focus on animal and plant biodiversity and quality of life. This model goes beyond aesthetics and advocates for green spaces to have an active role: in improving people’s well-being, promoting environmental awareness and contributing to the sustainability of the territory.

In recent years, the Viles Florides project has also been rethinking green spaces based on sustainability criteria adapted to the current climate context. Urban greenery is evolving towards more efficient and resilient solutions. The incorporation of native species or species better adapted to the environment allows us to reduce water consumption and better cope with drought episodes or extreme weather phenomena.

The PCB is also committed to increasing green spaces and comfortable rest areas. It works to create green spaces as meeting points for people in cool, shady spots that also serve as refuge and habitats for birds and insects. When creating terraces and gardens, plants adapted to the Mediterranean environment are selected, with low water demand and good resistance to our ecosystem’s hot summers.

In spring, urban green spaces are at their peak, and we encourage you to take a walk and admire the richness and diversity of our gardens.
