V Annual Conference of the Biomedical Research Technology Platforms

The Annual Conference of the four Spanish Biomedical Research Technology Platforms will once again be held in Barcelona on 14 and 15 February 2012, focusing on Open Innovation. Jordi Quintana, Director of Business Development Scientist and head of the Drug Discovery Platform at Barcelona Science Park, will take part in this meeting.This year's conference will present the latest initiatives and projects that have been started up in Spain focusing on open innovation.


This yearly conference is a meeting point for all of the stakeholders and institutions that work in drug research and development, nanomedicine and healthcare technology, allowing them to learn about the latest projects being carried out by the various platforms on a European level.

The inaugural event, on 14 February at 9 am, will feature director-general for Technology Transfer and Business Development for the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Mª Luisa Poncela; general director of Farmaindustria, Humberto Arnés; secretary general of Fenin, Margarita Alfonsel; president of Asebio, Regina Revilla, and CEO of Biocat, Montserrat Vendrell.

Directly after, there will be four conferences: The Future of Innovative Medicines Initiative, by Trevor Jones, member of the IMI Scientific Committee; Centers of Excellence in Nanomedicine, by Dimitrios Stamou, director of the Lundbeck Foundation Center for Biomembranes on Nanomedicine-University of Copenhagen; Open Innovation in Hospital and Research Centers, by Lluís Blanch, director of Research and Innovation at the Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí; and International Rare Diseases Research Consortium, by Josep Torrent-Farnell, director general de la Doctor Robert Foundation.

To finish off the day, there will be four breakout sessions on centers of efficiency in clinical research, breakthroughs in minimally invasive imaging, joint drug-discovery projects, and informing patients on R&D in biopharmaceutical products and healthcare technology.

On 15 February, there will be roundtables on pharma-biotech-academia and pharma-medtech-biotech cooperation.
