Next week, May 18-21, Atlanta is hosting the 2009 Bio International Convention (Bio Atlanta 2009), a world renowned event that aims to draw together the main companies, professionals and representatives of public and private institutions of the biotech sector in order to exchange experiences and establish contacts that facilitate the development of new business opportunities and work projects in networking. The meeting also has the objective of disseminating new trends and research activity that the industry is currently performing in this field.

The assistance of over 20,000 people from 70 different countries is expected in this edition, including representatives from the Barcelona Science Park and other organisations and biotechs located at the PCB, such as the biotechs Intelligent Pharma, Aromics and Omnia Molecular –who are part of the PCB-Santander Bioincubator-, Oryzon Genomics, Microart, Advancell, Leitat Technological Centre and Prous Institute for Biomedical Research and Esteve, located at the PCB. Other organisations housed by the PCB who will attend the event are the Catalan Institute of Bioengineering (IBEC), the Agency for Assessing and Marketing Research Results (AVCRI) and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona).

The director of Research and Innovation of the PCB, Jesús Purroy, will attend the event as the representative for the PCB. On Wednesday at 2.30 p.m. (local time), he will offer a conference titled: “The Barcelona Model of Science Parks”.

The Barcelona Science Park is part of the Catalan delegation, which will be located within the official pavilion of the Spanish State, and will occupy 400 m2 , nearly half of the total 1,000m2 allotted surface. This pavilion has been divided into bioregions.

Biocat, together with the Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) and the Genome Spain Foundation, has coordinated the presence of Catalonia at Bio 2009. This year the Catalan pavilion will hold 25 company stands and will include new elements such as an amphitheatre for company presentations (called speaker’s corner), which will be available to use by the Catalan delegation, with the objective of facilitating the presentation of services or results of research projects conducted by the attendees to the Fair.
