Strong presence of Barcelona Science Park at the BIO International Convention 2018 in Boston

One more year, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) participates in BIO International Convention, the largest global event for the biotech and pharmaceutical sector hosted annually by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). This year the meeting will take place from 4 to 7 June in Boston (Massachusetts, United States) and is expected to attract more than 16,000 attendees from 74 countries. The Catalan delegation makes up half of all of the Spanish companies participating in the fair, with 38 companies and organizations, nine of which are based in PCB. 

 

In this year’s Convention ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, in collaboration with the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Chicago, organises the SpainBio pavilion (#543) and it will be common for all Spanish companies, regardless of the bioregion from which they come from. The BioRegion of Catalonia –dynamized and promoted by Biocat from its headquarters in the Barcelona Science Park– will be represented by 11 pharmaceutical corporations, 16 biotechnology firms, 2 service companies and 9 organizations and research entitites, among which are  BioSeed Capital, BionureCytes BiotechnologiesEsteveIDP Discovery PharmaIproteos, Proteodesign and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), wich are based in the Park.

IDP Discovery will also be one of the two Catalan companies that will present their most innovative projects in the field of cancer in a 4-minute pitch at the International Cancer Cluster Showcase. The program will also include three ‘networking breaks’ with Poster Sessions, within the framework of which Biocat will present the oncological pipeline of the BioRegion of Catalonia.

Jornada Spain kicks-off BIO

Spanish participation in BIO will be enhanced with the sixth edition of the Spain Kicks-off BIO to be held next Monday at the Seaport Hotel of Boston. The session, titled “At the cutting Edge – Challenges, successes and lessons learned at the forefront of biotech innovation, licensing and venture “, this session aims to be a meeting point for debate and the sharing of experiences and knowledge between Spanish and US biotechnology companies. Among the keynote speakers are Juan García Soria (CEO of Bioseed Capital) and Miquel Vila-Perelló,CEO of ProteoDesign, both companyies presents at PCB.

The largest global event for the biotechnology sector

The BIO International Convention is the largest global event for the biotechnology industry and attracts the biggest names in biotech, offers key networking and partnering opportunities, and provides insights and inspiration on the major trends affecting the industry. Each year, the event brings together more than 15,000 delegates in a different American city from thousands of organizations that include world-leading biotech and pharmaceutical companies, more than 300 academics institutions and research laboratories, government agencies and consultancy and service companies related to the sector.

The annual convention organized every year by Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) seeks to facilitate contact between companies and institutions with potential partners and investors, promote the signing of agreements, stimulate markets and promote the biotechnology sector in their respective regions of origin.

Consequently, in addition to the commercial exhibition area, this edition will encompass, as in previous years, a comprehensive  program of daily networking events, one-to-one partnering meetings and seminars on various current topics to provide attendees with the opportunity to reach top executives and decision-makers, find new players in the industry, forge partnerships and evaluate emerging technologies.

La BIO International Convention 2017,celebrated in San Diego, brought together more than 16,000 delegates from 74 countries and led to more than 41,000 partnering meetings.
