Some frequently asked questions about PCB waste (Waste FAQs)

Today we discuss some environmental questions that often come up:

– Solid chemical waste: at the beginning of September we switched to a new style of chemical solid waste collection container (contaminated absorbents – black label). The new container is green and does not need a liner.

– Paper to be destroyed: the PCB offers a paper collection service for destroying confidential documents. The paper must be deposited in well-sealed boxes labelled with the name of the company. Requests should be sent to magatzem@pcb.ub.cat, stating the name of the person in charge and the location of the boxes. The rate is €1.56/kg.

– Scientific equipment for disposal: the equipment to be destroyed must be delivered clean and disinfected. Please notify magatzem@pcb.ub.cat.

– Toner: all building receptions have bins for collecting spent toner cartridges. Please drop them off in a packaging bag or box to prevent ink residue from getting everywhere.

– Coffee capsules: the PCB does not offer a coffee capsule management service. There are 100% biodegradable capsules that can be treated as organic waste. You can also opt for coffee makers that do not use capsules to cut down on difficult-to-recycle aluminium or plastic waste.
