Samuel Sánchez wins the Banc de Sabadell Science and Engineering Award

Samuel Sánchez, ICREA research professor at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), where he leads the “Smart nano-bio-devices” group, receives the Banc Sabadell Foundation Award for Science and Engineering for his contribution to the field of nanotechnology.

The Banc Sabadell Foundation Award for Science and Engineering has been organized in collaboration with the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), and aims to recognize the careers of young researchers who stand out in fields such as mathematics, chemistry, physics or engineering.

The jury of this VI edition, chaired by Prof. Andreu Mas-Colell, have recognized the work of Dr. Samuel Sánchez, for his excellent career in interdisciplinary frontier research, highlighting his leadership in the area of nanorobots, an innovative topic with impact from basic science to its applications. His work is excellent and is a reference in the field, ranging from fundamental aspects of chemistry to applications in both the biomedical and environmental fields.

Samuel Sánchez holds a PhD in Chemistry from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and, prior to his work at IBEC, worked at Max Planck and Leibniz in Germany and Japan. He has received numerous awards for his pioneering work with nanorobots, as well as some of the most competitive projects at the national and European level, such as four ERC Grants, including the Consolidator Grant he currently holds. He has published more than 150 papers, presented more than 130 invited lectures and has 7 patents, one of them licensed to the spin off of which he is founder.
