DTI Foundation President, Dr. Martí Manyalich, has been awarded the ESOT Honorary Membership

Dr. Martí Manyalich, president of the DTI– Donation & Transplantation Institute Foundation, based at the Barcelona Science Park, has been appointed as an honorary member of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) for his contribution in the field of organ donation and transplantation. The recognition ceremony was held in the context of the 20th edition of the association’s biennial congress, ESOT 2021, which took place from August 29 to September 1 in Milà (Italy).

Moreover, the DTI’s Director of International Cooperation & Development, Dr. Chloë Ballesté, has been elected as a Councillor in the ESOT Council Elections. She was also a speaker in the session called “Yes we can! How to start a DCD programme”, where she explored the ins and outs of donation after circulatory death programs and explained how to start one.

DTI’s Tissues and Cells Unit Director, Estephan Arredondo, was a speaker during a panel titled “Predictive models and tools in transplantation: Looking into the crystal ball”. He shared his expertise about I-DTI, a second opinion platform between healthcare professionals related to organ donation and transplantation.

ESOT 2021 was an invaluable opportunity to meet and exchange knowledge and best practices with professionals who are working in the field and are involved, such as surgeons, physicians, coordinators, nurse,s clinicians, scientist, nutrition and rehabilitation specialists, and  pharmacists.

The meetings also provided its attendees with the most recent information on emerging trends in organ transplantation, and the latest information to understand all the changes and updates, such as the role of infectious diseases in posttransplant, the advances in chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell immunotherapy in hematologic malignancies and the management of therapy-related toxicities.
