Presentation of the NGO “Nutrition Without Borders” at the PCB

On Friday 28 October, the non-governmental organization (NGO) " Nutrition Without Borders" was presented at the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park). The main objective of this NGO is to contribute to decreasing nutritional inequalities. Presided by the director of the at the PCB, Lluís Serra Majem, this new NGO will work on a model of cooperation involving immigrants in to order to perform development projects in their countries of origin.


On Friday 28 October, the non-governmental organization (NGO) ” Nutrition Without Borders” was presented at the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB, Barcelona Science Park). The main objective of this NGO is to contribute to decreasing nutritional inequalities. Presided by the director of the at the PCB, Lluís Serra Majem, this new NGO will work on a model of cooperation involving immigrants in to order to perform development projects in their countries of origin.

“The idea to set up this NGO arose from the need to address cooperation and humanitarian aid from the field of community nutrition, using simple and inexpensive interventions adapted to each community that may reduce undernutrition in developing countries. We believe that undernutrition is one of the problems that all developed nations must address at its point of origin”, explained Serra Majem.

“Nutrition Without Borders” will perform several activities, such as courses on cultural diversity and food, aimed at immigrant populations and also health care professionals, teachers and professionals working in cooperation and humanitarian aid programmes. In addition, among other activities, this NGO will participate in integral cooperation and co-development projects in Gambia and Senegal that address maternal-infant nutrition; nutritional and social intervention projects in marginal infant populations in Paraguay in collaboration with other NGOs; and courses given by university specialists on nutrition and cooperation with the aim to teach aid workers about diagnosis and nutritional intervention in disadvantaged communities. “Through cooperation, nutritionists and specialized dieticians will work in situ with these populations in order to optimise their food resources”, added Mercè Vidal, secretary of the NGO.
