Join the challenge of the Barcelona Science Park for the iFest Countdown disruptive programme!

iFest, an event promoted by Catalunya Emprèn to brings young people closer to science, technology and disruptive innovation, is getting ready for a second edition of the learning  programme iFest Countdown. The players will have to develop prototypes responding to real-life challenges proposed by various entities, including the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). In the 2021 Demo Day iFest, each team will have to defend their project and compete with other participants.

The iFest Countdown proposes a learning and acceleration programme for about four months to baccalaureate, vocational training, university degree, and Masters students focusing on entrepreneurship and disruption in innovation. The method is structured in 4 phases: Problem Reformulation, Idea Generation Techniques, Prototyping and Communication.

During this period, participants will also be able to follow webinars on exponential technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology and blockchain. They will also hear, directly from the main players, about agents of the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Catalonia: incubators, accelerators, start-ups, makers, fab labs, universities, research centres, etc., which will accompany the participants during this process

The challenge launched by Barcelona Science Park

Within the framework of the iFest Countdown, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) launches the challenge “How to promote scientific vocations among young people?”, aimed at students of Catalan education centers. The players will have to develop an activity to encourage scientific vocations in secondary and high school, within the academic curriculum, to carry it out in PCB, or online.

This initiative is part of the Research in Society, a programme launched by the Barcelona Science Park in 2003 to bring science closer to the public at large and encourage vocations among young people. It currently includes over 100 activities in which around 5,000 people participate every year. The programme has been awarded with the Educational Quality Label from Barcelona’s Pedagogical Coordination Council (CCP) run by the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Education (IMEB), and is supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and the Barcelona City Council’s Municipal Institute of Culture (ICUB).
