GlyCardial begins the clinical trial of its novel diagnostic device for myocardial ischemia Blog Post

GlyCardial Diagnostics, located at the Barcelona Science Park, has announced the enrolment of the first two patients in the EDICA trial: a multicenter international clinical study for the early detection of myocardial ischaemia. The company –a spinoff of the Research Institute of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (IR-HSCSP) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), has developed innovative technology for the detection of Apo J-Glyc protein, as a novel biomarker in blood for the diagnosis and prognosis of myocardial ischemia, and expects to demonstrate the reliability of the new test in hospital laboratories.

 

New Born Solutions chosen to take part in the EIT Health Digital Sandbox Blog Post

New Born Solutions, based in the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), was one of the 10 small and medium-sized enterprises chosen to take part in the Digital Sandbox accelerator programme developed by EIT Health, the Knowledge and Innovation in Health Community, promoted by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT). The winning start-ups, chosen from around thirty applicants from all over Europe, will receive advisory services and up to €35,000 in funding to develop products and services making use of the data available on biobanks and quality registers in Europe.

 

The Barcelona Science Park takes part in the European Researchers’ Night Blog Post

More than 130 students from five educational institutions attended the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) today to take part in the Matí de la Recerca, an initiative developed as part of the European Researchers’ Night in Catalonia (EuNightCat). The latter has grown since the previous edition, running a series of activities on 27 and 28 September. The European Commission promotes the European Researchers’ Night project within the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, seeking to bring science and technology closer to the general public, break stereotypes about researchers and encourage young people to pursue a career in research. Around 300 European cities celebrate the European Researchers’ Night on the last Friday of September.

 

The Barcelona City Council and FECYT renew their support to Research in Society Program Blog Post

Once again the ‘Research in Society’ programme run by the Barcelona Science Park will have the financial backing of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundación Española para la Ciencia y Tecnología) and Barcelona City Council in the shape of grants coming to €25,000 and €14,000 respectively. This funding from the two institutions will help secure the development of the PCB’s science popularisation activities and also recognises its firm commitment to driving measures that add to the social dimension of science.

 

A Eugin study wins the Clinical Science Award for best clinical poster at ESHRE 2019 Blog Post

The fresh or frozen eggs of the same woman are equally fertile. This is the main conclusion of a study conducted by Eugin Group researchers which won the Clinical Science Award for best clinical poster at the 35th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE). The research went head-to-head with 800 other studies, and its principal investigator was David Cornet-Bartolomé, a member of Eugin’s Basic Research Laboratory headquartered in the Barcelona Science Park.

 

GalChimia doubles the surface of its R&D&I center in the Barcelona Science Park Blog Post

The MessyCheffy project won the challenge launched by the PCB, the IBEC and the IRB in the iFest Countdown Blog Post

MessyCheffy, an interactive physiotherapy game for children with muscular dystrophy, developed by the Yallow team from the University of Barcelona, has won the “Rare Diseases” challenge set by the Barcelona Science Park, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) as part of the iFest Countdown initiative. The young finalists of this programme presented their prototypes to a panel at the Auditorium Imagina Mediapro today at the iFest Demo Day, during an event chaired by the director of Catalunya Emprèn, Pere Condom. 

 

The call for the 2019-2020 Research in Society program is open Blog Post

Today, Monday 17 Juny the Barcelona Science Park has kicked off its 19th Research in Society programme with the opening of the pre-registration period for the experimental workshops “Discover research!” and “Do research!”. Places will be allocated to applicant schools in a draw using the list of reservation numbers.
