UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science leader, announces the acquisition of  AWS Truepower, a leading energy engineering services and advisory firm. This achievement expands UL’s global renewable energy portfolio by strengthening full lifecycle solutions for wind and solar energy sectors. AWS Truepower operates in Europe and Latin America through AWS Truepower SLU, a spanish company located at the Barcelona Scientific Park (PCB).

 

A scientific study outlines the evolution of genes involved in selenoprotein synthesis Blog Post

An international study has been highlighted on the cover of the prestigious journal Genome Research. It illustrates the evolution of selenophosphate synthetase genes —involved in selenoprotein synthesis— in prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. Montserrat Corominas and Florenci Serras, professors in the Department of Genetics and researchers at the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB) at PCB, participate in the study together with the scientific team led by Roderic Guigó, expert at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG-UPF).

 

Leitat leads GLAM, a European project to improve cancer diagnosis Blog Post

A European consortium led by Centre Tecnològic Leitat –through its Biomed Divisionlocated at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB)– has started the Glass-Laser Multiplexed Biosensor (GLAM) project, the aim of which is to develop a photonic-based point-of-care device for a non-invasive diagnosis of Genitourinary Cancer (GU). The GLAM project which will expand for 4 years will involve the participation of 10 European organizations with resources and capabilities from the academia and scientific and business field, among them the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), located at PCB. 

 

More than 50 attendees in the Crea!Empresa conference Blog Post

The Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG) organized last November 13 the 7th edition of the Crea!Empresa Conference at the Barcelona Science Park, which aim is to promote entrepreneurship. A total of 57 people attended the conference. The attendees were mainly students, graduates or doctorates (66,7%) and almost 40% were from the Biology Faculty (38 %). This conference wants to promote entrepreneurship in the university community and to make known new careers in research, such as entrepreneurship.
