Our diet is a reflection of our sustainability

As in many other facets of human activity, food sustainability involves interdisciplinary solutions and requires extensive collaboration among all actors in the value chain. Food sustainability encompasses multiple factors, such as culture, education, health, social justice and respect for the planet, and given the complexity of the economic, social and environmental relations involved, solutions are not easy.

The coexistence of hunger and obesity, the overexploitation of natural resources and the immense amount of food wasted in the world are the paradoxes of the current food system, which also plays a fundamental role in greenhouse gas emissions and groundwater pollution.

As consumers, we can decide on the type of food we buy at each time of the year, its origin, its packaging and, of course, how we use it. Our choice is essential to reducing greenhouse gases and encouraging the use of local products and zero km food.

Let’s also be responsible consumers when it comes to choosing food; let’s base our decisions on reducing our footprint, for the health of the planet and our own.
