Montserrat Vendrell appointed to ELIXIR Industry Advisory Committee

Montserrat Vendrell, CEO of Biocat and PCB, has been appointed to the ELIXIR Industry Advisory Committee (IAC). This intergovernmental organization is based at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

The Industry Advisory Committee was created recently in order to provide ELIXIR with strategic top-notch advice from independent experts, including SMEs, suppliers and editors. The final selection of the 11 IAC members was made through open nominations this past summer and they will hold their first meeting on 26 February 2015.

ELIXIR is an initiative that aims to build a sustainable European infrastructure for biological information, supporting biological research and its transfer to medicine, the environment, bioindustries and society. Its main goal is to bring together European laboratories and data centers in order to help coordinate the collection, quality, control and storage of the massive amounts of data generated through life sciences research. For the first time ever, ELIXIR is creating an infrastructure that integrates data from research around Europe and ensures uninterrupted service that is easily accessible to all.

The main services under this initiative, most of which are being carried out by its various nodes, include data sources, tools, computation, development of regulations and skills.
