José Antonio Moreno, researcher at Laboratorios Ordesa: “The PCB allows us to be part of an innovation ecosystem with which we share the mission of improving lives.”

The R&D&I centre of Laboratorios Ordesa, located at the Barcelona Science Park since 2007, carries out research projects focused on infant nutrition and nutrition science. This sustained research activity enables the company to continue offering nutritional supplements and products tailored to the different stages of life, with the aim of contributing to the improvement of human health and well-being.

At present, the pharmaceutical company’s preclinical research focuses on the development of new functional ingredients and advanced formulations aimed at immune health, with a particular emphasis on the pediatric population. In this context, Laboratorios Ordesa actively participates in clinical studies and national and international research programs, allowing it to position itself at the forefront of scientific knowledge in its field.

A recent example of this line of work is a study led by Ordesa’s R&D&I team that identified two probiotic strains capable of attenuating inflammation during pregnancy, with potential preventive effects against infection-induced preterm birth. The study, published in the journal Nutrients, opens the door to a new strategy based on bacterial compounds to modulate the maternal immune response and protect fetal health.

According to José Antonio Moreno, researcher, project manager, and Head of the Basic Research Area at Laboratorios Ordesa, being part of the Barcelona Science Park allows them “to be part of a unique innovation ecosystem, surrounded by research centres, universities, and biotechnology companies with which we share the same mission: advancing science to continue improving lives.”
