The “Jordi Sabater Pi Awards” is an initiative organised jointly by the “The Social Brain” Chair at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (AUB) , the Barcelona Consortium of Education, and the Barcelona Zoo, in collaboration with the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and the Jordi Sabater Pi Collection, based at the PCB. The awards were created in 2007 with the aim of fostering the interest of young people in the fields of biology and primatology. The award invites secondary school students to give some thought to human behaviour through the making of a short film.

This year, 200 3rd and 4th year students from secondary schools have participated in the awards. Following a 4 month period studying primate interaction at the Barcelona Zoo, the youngsters captured their impressions and views of human behaviour from an evolutive perspective in an audiovisual piece regarding issues such as learning, leadership, territory distribution, and conflict resolution. The edition winners were: the Sant Josep de Calassanç secondary school (first prize), the Josep Comas i Solà secondary school (second prize), and the Barri Besós secondary school (third prize).

As in previous editions, the Barcelona Science Park also granted a special prize to the “best naturalist drawing of a primate”, which consisted of a painting case. This special prize was chosen and presented to the prize winner personally by professor Jordi Sabater Pi. The winner of this 3rd edition was secondary school student Jorge Lazo from the Sant Josep de Calassanç secondary school.
