It’s time for peaceful, firm collective action to improve our trains

Collective actions and social movements are powerful tools to bring about change. Individuals committed to common goals come together and get organised to make their voices heard and achieve lasting transformations.

There are many examples where people have brought about changes to the positions and functioning of organisations or institutions in a calm, determined way, even to the point of changing the course of their history. A recent example is the continued demonstrations in Valencia after the flood disaster, which ended with the resignation of the president of the Generalitat Valenciana.

These days, we are experiencing chaos in the public transport network that has impacted the work and personal lives of 400,000 people. The poor condition of Catalonia’s railway infrastructure has consequences for people’s safety and their quality of life; it influences air quality and therefore health. The situation is serious and the solution requires time and money.

We need trains with guarantees, and now we have the opportunity to make our voice heard, beyond individual complaints. Let’s be alert to the collective actions that are being organised and don’t miss out! An organised civil society is a strong one.
