19 October: World Breast Cancer Day

Saturday 19 October is World Breast Cancer Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of early diagnosis in the fight against this type of cancer, the most common tumour among women worldwide.

Early detection is key to increasing the chances of survival since we can catch cancer in its early stages, before showing any symptoms. Periodic screening and regular breast self-examination are essential tools in this early detection. Take a moment and watch this video on how to perform a self-examination correctly: self-examination video.

Prevention also plays a crucial role in reducing the impact of this disease. Although the exact causes of breast cancer are not known, the European Code Against Cancer has a list of recommendations that can help reduce the risk, such as maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding obesity, regular physical activity, reducing alcohol consumption and encouraging breastfeeding.

Let’s stay aware and take care of ourselves; early detection can save lives!
