EQA, first entity accredited by ENAC in Spain for the validation of the self-assessment of compliance with the DNSH Principle

EQA, based in the Barcelona Science Park, is the first entity accredited in Spain by ENAC for the Validation of the Self-Assessment of Compliance with DNSH Principle (Do No Significant Harm). The assessment of this new environmental principle is an essential requirement to access NextGenerationEU funds.

In response to the economic and social damage caused by the pandemic, the European Commission created the NextGenerationEU instrument and, for its development, defined several recovery and financing elements, among which the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) stands out.

The Self-Assessment of Compliance with the DNSH Principle is one of the requirements of the RRF, and it only allows financing those projects that do not negatively affect one, or several, of the 6 environmental objectives defined in article 17 of Regulation (EU) 2020/852. This initiative is intended to ensure that none of the measures included in the recovery and resilience plans of the member states can cause a setback towards the achievement of the sustainable development objectives in the European Union.

In the applying to European legislation, in Spain, to access any of the calls for NextGenerationEU funds that are executed within the framework of the Spanish Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, must comply with the DNSH principle.

Each organization must carry out the self-assessment of compliance with the DNHS principle for each project in which it requests financing from the NextGenerationEU funds, which may require a validation report issued by an entity accredited by ENAC, which supports the conclusions of the self-assessment and ensure that these have a technical basis.
