Environmental management conference on strategies to enhance eco-friendly consumerism

On Friday 31 March, the Antoni Caparrós auditorium of the Parc Científic de Barcelona will host an environmental management conference entitled "Strategies to promote eco-friendly consumerism", organized by the Fundació Gas Natural, with the collaboration of the Dept. of Environment and Housing of the Generalitat de Catalunya(Government of Catalonia). Although society is aware of environmental issues, it has not embraced eco-friendly consumerism. This lack of social response will be addressed in this conference.

The conference will include presentations by several specialists from academia, local government and technical fields. The present situation of Catalan society regarding the perception and behaviour toward eco-friendly products will be considered. Furthermore, participants will debate the measures that local government, companies and ONGs must take to encourage eco-friendly consumer habits. Finally, the conference will address examples of eco-friendly products, social participation in environmental management and the development of environmental infrastructures required.

The opening session will be given by the director of the Fundació Gas Natural, Pere-A. Fàbregas, and the minister for the Environmental and Housing, Salvador Milà. The conference will also include the participation of the full professor of Social and Environmental Psychology at the UB, Enric Pol; the director of Projects, and Applied Social Anaysis, Elena Espleitx; professor with the Dept. of Social sciences at ESADE, Àngel Castiñeira; and the technical director of the Institut Cerdà Pere Torres. The examples given in the conference will be presented by representatives from the Estartit Sailing Club, and the companies Ecoveritas, KH Lloreda and Transports Pedrosa.
