Endor Nanotechnologies wins the 2014 Senen Vilaró Award for best innovative company

Endor Nanotechnologies, based at the Parc Cientific de Barcelona (PCB), has won the 2014 Senén Vilaró Award for best innovative company. The award is endowed  with 10,000 euros, and it's one of the four prizes conferred by the Board of Trustees and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation (FBG). The Antoni Caparros Prize also awarded a second prize of 2,000 euros to the training program in organ donation and transplantation led by Martin Manyalich, president of the DTI Foundation - Donation & Transplantation Institute- also located at the PCB-, associated professor of the Faculty Medicine and consultant in transplantation at the UB Hospital Clinic of Barcelona.

Over the course of the event, chaired by the rector of the UB, Dídac Ramírez, a lecture was presented by Manel Esteller, professor of Genetics at the UB and director of the Epigenetics and Cancer Biology of IDIBELL. The event also featured the participation of the president of the Social Council of the UB, Salvador Alemany, and the general director of the Fundació Bosch i Gimpera (FBG), M. Carme Verdaguer.

Endor Nanotechnologies focuses its activity on a technology platform centered on metal nanoparticles (mainly gold, silver and platinum) modified at superficial level with organic molecules to achieve advanced nanosystems with specific functions. The special characteristics of metal nanoparticles have allowed scientists to investigate the different ways in which they function. These studies are carried out using medical application programs focused on oncology that the pharmaceutical industry launches to the market, and also by the development of dermatological applications programs such as common cosmetic treatment products and new applications.

The Antoni Caparros and Senen Vilaró Prizes were created in 2008 by the by the Board of Trustees and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, located at the Parc Cientific de Barcelona with the aim of promoting the return to society of the knowledge acquired throughout studies and research, assessing the importance of technology transfer projects, knowledge and innovation, promoting the creation of innovative companies based on knowledge, recognizing the innovative capacity generated and promoting entrepreneurial culture in the university setting. Specifically, the objective of the Senen Vilaró Prize awarded to Endor Nanotechnologies is to recognize the innovative capacity developed by a graduate or a company linked to the UB Group.

The Board of Trustees Prizes recognize the best paper derived from a doctoral dissertation defended at the UB and published in a recognized journal. They were created with the aim of promoting the image of doctoral studies at the UB, stressing the dual role of quality R&D originating from doctoral programs, becoming familiar with this quality  R&D and maintaining a more fluid contact with professors of the UB, thus enabling to establish closer research and knowledge transfer collaborations for mutual benefit. The UB considers that the training achieved by means of doctoral programs should serve to enhance quality research and return to society some of the knowledge acquired. Two awards are granted: the José Manuel Blecua Prize in the field of humanities and social sciences, and the Ramon Margalef Prize in the field of experimental sciences and health.
