Endor develops the first treatment that combines gold particles and laser to regenerate skin

The Catalan company Endor Nanotechnologies, which is part of the Barcelona Science Park's PCB-Santader Bioincubator, has developed the first dermatological treatment at a worldwide level that combines the use of gold nanoparticles and the application of laser to accelerate the skin's regenerating capacity. The new product, which is ready for commercialization, will be applied in laser skin treatments, a market that moved a business volume of 150 million Euros in 2009 in the European Union and which presents an annual growth of 15%.

The firm, founded in 2007, carries out its activity in the field of nanotechnology applied to the pharmaceutical sector and has received the support of ACC1Ó through the Technological Nuclei programme.

Gold nanoparticles are effective for wrinkle correction, scar elimination and reduction of skin blemishes, given that they activate when they come into contact with laser radiation. Therefore, when particles –also called heat nano-sources- are located in the higher layers of the skin, the laser that is applied to the area has an effect on its surface, increasing its temperature and stimulating skin regeneration. The result is a faster and more effective regeneration of skin cells than that obtained with conventional laser treatments. Another benefit provided by this cream is that it makes possible the use of very soft laser potency, therefore making it less invasive than the one currently used.

The product is the result of the collaboration with the Institute of Photon Sciences (ICFO). In the first stage, the commercialization of the cream will be aimed towards specialised dermatological centers, and later on it is expected to reach individual users.
