Christopher Black, Chief Operating Officer of BeCytes Biotechnologies – BioIVT: “We have a global network of hospitals, clinics and donation centres that enables us to get materials to researchers as quickly as possible”

The spin-off BeCytes Biotechnologies has spent the past decade specialising in the coordination, processing and distribution of high-quality human tissues and cells for biomedical research. Recently, it became part of the global network of companies within the US multinational BioIVT, an international leader as a contract research organisation (CRO) and provider of biological sample solutions for drug development and diagnostics.

“We have a global network of hospitals, clinics and donation centres that enables us to get materials to researchers as quickly as possible”,  explains Christopher Black, Chief Operating Officer of BeCytes Biotechnologies–BioIVT, in this video interview recorded during the latest Coffee Connection event organised for the entrepreneurial community of the Barcelona Science Park of the University of Barcelona (PCB-UB).

The company is currently working with the so-called new approach methodologies (NAMs), methodologies that provide ethical alternatives to animal models through in vitro assays and innovative technologies. “What we’re trying to do with BeCytes is to leverage their contacts, collaborations and research, adding more materials and support for what they are doing. I think it’s a great example of working with communities, like the Science Park here, to offer more opportunities,” Black explains during the interview.
