CataloniaBio sets up office at the PCB and appoints Melqui Calzado as new secretary general of the association

Since March of this year, Melqui Calzado has been the new secretary general of CataloniaBio, a cluster that currently embraces more than 60 companies in the field of life sciences located in Catalonia. The association has also set up its headquarters at the Parc Cientific de Barcelona (PCB) with the aim of being in a scientific-business setting of excellence in our country.

Calzado will work alongside the board chaired by Ignasi Biosca, CEO of Reig Jofre, since early 2014. The strategic objectives of the company for the next few years are to promote business cooperation and internationalization by attracting investment and financing, and to facilitate in the transfer of knowledge generated by research centers and universities to the companies that form part of the organization.

Melqui Calzado has been involved in this sector for more than 15 years, especially in technology transfer. During the last five years, Calzado has held the position of Business Development Manager at the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and at the same time the post of Project Manager of the Spanish Technology Platform for Innovative Medicines. He has ample consulting experience at aAntares Consulting and IMS Health. Calzado holds a degree in Human Biology, a Masters postgraduate degree in Health Economics and a Masters postgraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management from the UPF.
