Before heading out for the summer: tidying workspaces, stock control and energy reduction

There is usually a downturn in laboratory and office activity during the summer. Sometimes places close completely for a few weeks, although large companies and institutes might stay open with a lower work rate. In either situation, it is a good idea to take measures to tidy up and go through materials and supplies.

Some tips and recommendations before going on holiday:

– To make cleaning easier, leave the shelves free.

– Product and reagent containers must be tightly closed and, if possible, in safety or laboratory cabinets.

– Do not leave waste canisters in laboratories even if they are not completely full.

– To monitor energy savings, make sure that the fume hood and electrical appliances are switched off.

– Check that spaces with fan coils are switched off.

– To avoid insects, make sure that no food is left in drawers, cupboards or shared fridges.

Keeping spaces tidy, clean and free of clutter are key factors in preventing accidents and inefficiencies at work and require everyone’s cooperation.

Enjoy the days off!
