More than 2,450 students from all over Catalonia will participate in the scientific workshops of the RESSÒ program

The Barcelona Science Park has launched a new edition of the experimental Workshops of its RESSÒ program. This initiative aims to bring the scientific method closer to students—ranging from the 5th grade of primary school to the 2nd year of high school and vocational training—through real experiments related to research projects carried out at the Park. During the 2024–2025 school year, more than 2,450 students from 85 schools across Catalonia will participate in a total of 90 workshops.

This year, 1,250 students from 5th and 6th grades of primary school and 1st and 2nd years of secondary school from 28 educational centers will participate in 50 workshops. They will learn about scientific research through experiments on cells, DNA, chemical reactions, and molecules at the nanometer scale.

On the other hand, 1,200 students from 3rd and 4th years of secondary school, high school, and vocational training from 61 educational centers will have the opportunity to participate in 40 workshops related to various areas of research. Some projects include the creation of drugs for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s through chemical or peptide synthesis; the study of drug repositioning for type II diabetes; the investigation of therapeutic targets for arteriosclerosis; and the study of the biomechanical properties of the cell membrane applied to cancer. Participants will experiment with techniques such as bacterial transformation, electrophoresis, bacterial and cell seeding, chromatography, and DNA sequencing, among others.

Additionally, this year, 55 spots have been assigned to children of researchers from the Park, and 120 free spots have been granted to Maximum Complexity Centers (CMC).

On September 16, a draw was held to assign workshop spots. The final lists can be consulted here.

The RESSÒ program, an initiative of the Barcelona Science Park launched in 2003, aims to bring science closer to the public and encourage scientific vocations among young people. Each year, the program offers more than 100 activities in which nearly 7,000 people participate. Supported by the Barcelona City Council, the RESSÒ Program was recognized in 2016 with the Educational Quality Seal from the Pedagogical Innovation Council, promoted by the Municipal Institute of Education of Barcelona (IMEB).
