The OBD presents a document to promote reponsible access to legal-bioethics data in networks Blog Post

The Observatory of Bioethics and Law ()–UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at University of Barcelona, based in the Parc Científic de Barcelona, has just released a document entitled «Document on reponsible access to legal-bioethics data in networks» as part of the research project «», funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and supported by the «Bioethics, Law and Society» Consolidated Research Group of the Generalitat of Catalonia. The OBD warns of the negative effects of the lack of update, contextualization, errors and omissions often incurred by the various stakeholders involved in bioethical debates, and their impact on public policy making and the transmission of information.

“Privacy and Confidentiality: the protection of health-related data”, theme of the IV Seminar of the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics at the UB Blog Post

On the 21st of January, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) will host at the Antoni Caparros Conference Hall the IV International Seminar of the (UB) under the title “Privacy and Confidentiality: the protection of health-related data”. This year, the forum –which is held annually with the aim of promoting the ““of the UNESCO–will focus on fostering a culture sensitive to the protection of the confidentiality of computerized medical records as well as the necessary confidentiality of the doctor-patient relationship.

Next Monday October 26, the first 2009-2010 academic year session of the Annual Seminar of the Bioethics and Law Association of the University of Barcelona (ABD), organised in collaboration with the PCB-UB Bioethics and Law Observatory () and the UB Unesco Chair in Bioethics, will take place at 7 p.m. at the UB Bioethics Unesco Chair headquarters –located at the Barcelona Science Park (C/ Baldiri Reixac 4, Tower D, 4th floor). Ruth Macklin, an internationally renowned specialist in bioethics, will talk about the “Fair benefits from research. What do we owe the subjects, the community or the country where research is carried out when such research is completed?”

María Casado participates in the National Commission’s meeting on the forensic use of DNA Blog Post

María Casado, director of the Bioethics and Law Observatory (), located at the Barcelona Science Park, has participated today in the first meeting of the National Commission on the forensic use of DNA, a recently created organism linked to the Ministry of Justice, of which she is a member. This commission, comprised of experts from different fields, aims to establish the criteria for the scientific research and technique that must be followed when performing DNA analysis, and to accredit the laboratories that carry out these analyses, as well as to provide the legal safety necessary for results to be applied in determining the guilt or innocence of the defendants in legal processes.

Bioethics and Law Observatory Publishes First Volume in Bioethics Collection Blog Post

The Bioethics and Law Observatory (), located at the Barcelona Science Park, announces the first publication in its new collection Materiales de Bioética, prepared in conjunction with the Bioethics and Law Association (), a group formed by holders of master’s degrees in Bioethics from the University of Barcelona. The aim of the collection is to publish papers written for the Bioethics and Law Observatory, featuring work by the Consolidated Research Group in Bioethics, Law and Society of the Generalitat of Catalonia and by the at the University of Barcelona. The collection is coordinated by María Casado, who holds the UNESCO chair and serves as OBD director, and it will be available in print and electronic formats.
