2nd edition of Summer School on Medicines (SSM2)

The 2nd edition of "Summer School on Medicines" (SSM2) –a summer school organized jointly by the Barcelona Science Park and the Tolouse Cancer Campus in colaboration with Biocat– will take place from August 31 through September 10 in Toulouse (France) and in Barcelona. These two cities are pioneers in pharmaceutical I+D in Southern Europe. The initiative aims to bring PhD and postdoctoral students, researchers, scientific journalists and people associated with regulation agencies closer to the different aspects of the process that begins with an idea and results in a medicine in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological sectors.

The School, which lasts 60 hours, includes a scientific programme consisting of conferences and visits to pharmaceutical companies and science parks located in Barcelona and Toulouse. Invited speakers include representatives from companies such as Sanofi-Aventis, Almirall, Merck Sharp & Dohme and Pierre Fabre Laboratory, as well as researchers from the Clinical Hospital of Barcelona, the Hospital del Mar, the Hospital Santa Fe, the Claudius Regaud Institute, the Gustave Roussy Institute and the CHU of St. Louis, amongst others.

The SSM2 is organized within the framework of Interbio European project (Interreg-Sudoe), which offers 750 euro scholarships for attending. Anybody interested in applying for these scholarships should contact the Communication and External Relations Department of the Bioregion of Catalonia (Biocat), which supports this initiative as an action within the Interbio project and the Southern Europe Biocluster network of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion (European group of territorial cooperation). A part of this scholarship is used to cover enrollment and accommodation expenses, and the rest is reimbursed to the participant for the trip. The registration deadline is July 31.

Students from six countries and 11 nationalities participated in the previous edition of this programme, which took place in Barcelona and had an excellent reception.
