Broad participation of Barcelona Science Park at BioSpain 2016

The Bilbao Exhibition Center (BEC) in Barakaldo (Bizkaia) will host  BioSpain 2016, the 8th edition of the eighth edition of this biennial event of biotechnology, the largest in Europe with permanent headquarters in one country and the fifth in the world ranking by number of partnering meetings. The event, to be held from 28 to 30 September, will bring together more than 2,000 attendees, 855 companies and nearly 50 investors- and will feature the participation of the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and a large number of companies and entities of the PCB Community.

This 8th edition will feature increased participation of regional pavilions, which this year will feature Galicia, the Basque Country, Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands. In addition, organizers estimate that the trade fair will be 40% larger in terms of occupied surface. As for the partnering space, it will be similar to last year, although it is expected to surpass the 3,327 one-to one meetings held in Biospain 2014.

Biocat, based at the Barcelona Science Park  (PCB), will coordinate one more time the participation of the Catalan BioRegion in Biospain 2016, formed by nearly 60 companies and entities, including BioingeniumEnantiaIntelligent PharmaIproteosMind the BytePharmamarPharmaphenix and the Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG-CRG), based at the PCB. These companies will have their own stands at the fair.

Other active participants at the event from PCB will be the companies AelixAvizorex PharmaAziertaEsteve, Insights in Life Sciences (ilS)LeanBioProRecerca Clínica y Sequentia Biotech, and the entities CataloniaBioGaem Foundation, the IBEC, the IRB Barcelona and the Fundació Bosch i Gimpera (FBG), that will present the technologies that University of Barcelona (UB) has on offer to be granted under license and the research lines of the UB as a provider of technological solutions in the areas of biotechnology and health sciences.

To date 17 countries have confirmed their presence at this edition, which will have the United States as guest country. The growing interest seen at the BIO International Convention in San Francisco (California, United States), plus the fact that last year Spanish biotechnology has demonstrated its competitiveness on a global scale, have led to a significant increase in participation from North America.

Biospain 2016 will be held as part of European Biotech Week, from 26 September to 2 October, and will be one of the most relevant events in Europe during that week.

In the last edition, held in Santiago de Compostela in 2014, Biospain had 200 exhibitors, 2,000 attendees and 855 companies and institutions from 37 countries, with 3,327 one-to-one meetings and 50 scientific conferences. In addition, 720 products available for licensing were also presented.
