GlyCardial Diagnostics, created in 2017, is a spin-off of the Institut de Recerca de l'Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (IR-HSCSP) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), promoted by Dr Judit Cubedo. The biotech company is developing an in vitro diagnostic device (IVD) for the early detection of cardiac ischaemia and the prediction of the evolution of patients after an ischaemic event (when the circulation of blood through of the arteries of a particular area diminishes), currently one of the most common cardiac emergencies and whose early detection is crucial in order to avert subsequent complications and irreversible damage. The problem is that current techniques can only detect ischaemia once irreversible death of the cardiac tissue has already occurred.
