Brief History of the Parc Científic Barcelona
  • 1994 The Board of Governors of the UB approves the provision of space for the creation of a science park.

  • 1997 Creation of the PCB Foundation by the UB, the Fundació Bosch i Gimpera and the Caixa Catalunya.

  • 1998 The Spanish Government joins the agreement to set up the Parc Científic i Tecnològic de Barcelona. Work begins on the Modular Building and renovation of Tower D.

  • 1999 The first office facilities for is made available for the new head offices of the FBG and its . Installation of the 800 MHz .

  • 2000 Incorporation of the into the Modular Building.

  • 2001 Attended by 1500 people, the of the PCB is held to mark the completion of building work and the start-up of the . Incorporation of the first companies and spin-offs from the pharmaceutical and fine chemistry sectors.

  • 2002 Public research groups working in biomedicine move into the Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona (), located in the Modular Building. The services of the PCB and the begin operating. The is opened.

  • 2003 The PCB becomes fully operational with all space occupied. In june the PCB signs collaborations agreements with the Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología (Ministry of Science and Technology), Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) (Higher Science Research Council) and the Departament d'Universitats, Recerca i Societat de la Informació (DURSI) (Department of Universities, Research and the Information Society) of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The agreements allow the development and consolidation of the project of the PCB.
    The research groups of the IBMB, part of the CSIC, join the PCB through the IRBB-PCB.

  • 2005. Constitution of the foundations in charge of the management of the future "Institute for Biomedical Research, before the IRBB-PCB, and the "Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia", created on the scientific basis of the Laboratory for Research in Nanobioenginyeria (UB-UPC).
