UNESCO Ethics Teacher Training Course at Inter University Center in Dubrovnik. Croacia

UNESCO Ethics Teacher Training Course at Inter University Center in Dubrovnik, Croatia, (24-28 June 2013)

The Ethics Teacher Training Courses (ETTC) project is an important component of UNESCO’s capacity-building strategy in bioethics, targeting the young generation of experts and educators engaged in teaching ethics at various academic faculties and institutions around the world, who can serve as agents for expanding and improving ethics teaching programmes in their countries in the near future.

This Ethics Teacher Training Course in Dubrovnik, Croatia is a collaborative effort involving UNESCO, the Inter University Center in Dubrovnik (IUC), the School of Medicine at the University of Zagreb, and the Croatian National Commission for UNESCO. The Course offers a unique opportunity for participants from Croatia and from other countries in the region to enhance their teaching capacities in ethics.

The main objectives of the Ethics Teachers Training Course are to:

·         introduce the participants to the means and resources of teaching ethics;

·         teach the participants the methodologies and methods of teaching ethics; and

·         assess and provide feedback on the participants’ demonstrations of teaching skills under the guidance of experienced teachers.

Ethics Teacher Training Courses are conducted by a team of experts with extensive experience in ethics education, from the universities in Croatia, as well as outside the country.

Participants should have a Master’s degree (in areas such as law, medicine, philosophy, ethics, or social sciences), hold a University faculty appointment to teach courses, and have good command of English language.

Persons who want to register should submit a registration form to Mr Irakli Khodeli at Bioethics Section of UNESCO (i.khodeli@unesco.org), as early as possible. This form is also available at the dedicated UNESCO web site. Applicants should also include a letter of intent (500 words) explaining why they wish to participate in the course and how they expect to benefit from it.

While the participation in the course is free, the participants are expected to pay 40 Euro participation fee to IUC, and to cover their room and board expenses in the duration of the training. A limited number of scholarships are available for participants from Croatia, as well as from certain countries from Eastern and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union.
